Last in this list but far from the least, is Gustavo from Beijummy, whose Portuguese/Brazilian accent can be distinctly heard along the street. He is perhaps the nearest to the Market Spielers Victorian visitors would have known, teasing customers by promising unmatchable bargains and free samples.

His ability to multi-task was impressive as he chops up his Tapioca cheese speciality, passing it to customers and calling out to attract passers-by whilst still talking with us. Customers would butt in and tell us how long they had attended his stall recommending we try his various products.

Gustavo has been in Whitecross Market for 10 years and is very complimentary of Islington Council for the way that they ensure quality and variety at the stalls, as indeed were all stall holders, saying they all know bad publicity for one unit would damage all.

Gustavo’s stall would be worth a visit just for the entertainment, let alone the unique cheese pizza shaped tapioca based dish. Find out about other food units in Whitecross Street Market here.
