Tech giant Apple is expanding its support for education in Wandsworth with a new £340,000 investment arriving this September — bringing the company’s total contribution in the borough to over £1 million.

The funding was announced during last week’s full council meeting by Council Leader Simon Hogg, who praised the ongoing partnership and its impact on local students.
“We were delighted to announce Apple’s additional £340,000 investment coming this September, with more schools, more SEND resources added to the programme,” said Counceller Hogg. “That will take the tech firm’s contribution to the borough well past a million pounds in our schools.”
The programme, which launched last year, includes coding workshops, digital creativity sessions, and teacher training across primary and secondary schools. The latest funding will help expand the initiative to more classrooms and increase support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Apple’s partnership is part of Wandsworth’s wider push to improve digital education and access to technology. Local leaders say the scheme helps prepare students for modern careers and boosts confidence with creative tools.
The announcement comes alongside another major youth investment: a £15 million “Year of Play” programme, which will see dozens of local playgrounds upgraded. At least 15 of those are due for completion this year. “We’re not neglecting old-school analogue fun either,” said Cllr Hogg. “We’ve got more parks and green spaces than any other inner London borough and we want families to enjoy them.”
Wandsworth has also recently hosted a range of events as part of its London Borough of Culture 2025 programme, with thousands of local children and families taking part.
Council leaders say they hope Apple’s involvement will set an example for other companies to invest in the borough and work directly with schools and communities.
“This is about giving every child the tools to succeed — whether through tech or play,” said Councillor Hogg.
