How Redemption Roasters and the Ministry of Justice Are Helping Ex-Offenders Build a Better Future.

If you’ve ever been through the justice system finding out how to become and stay, a “contributing member to society” isn’t as simple as people think. People look at you like you’re a risk, not a person. But some are flipping the script. Redemption Roasters is one of them.

They’re working with the Ministry of Justice to train prisoners inside and after prison — teaching barista skills, roasting coffee, and building futures. It’s about more than making a oat latte, or getting a job.

It’s about purpose, stability, and staying out for good.

Breaking the Cycle

Nearly half of adults released from prison reoffend within a year. But when you give someone proper training, structure, and a reason to believe they’ve got options — that rate drops fast.

Redemption Roasters proves that. Inside places like HMP The Mount, prisoners learn real industry skills. When they come out, they’re linked to jobs in cafés and roasteries that see value, not just a record.

‘I say it how it is and I say this with all honesty; I could not ask for better support than what I got from the support team while in prison and even more so now that I am released.’

Backed by the System

The Ministry of Justice is finally putting money into proper rehabilitation — education, employer partnerships, and follow-through support. It’s not perfect, but it’s progress. And it’s working.

Why It Matters

That chart says it all. 38% reoffend. Only 4% do after Redemption Roasters. That’s not luck — that’s what happens when you treat people like people, not problems.

It’s a person staying out, earning, and rebuilding.

That kind of second chance? It’s not just life-changing. It’s life-saving.

Final word:

The world is full of talent, but not everyone has the support and guidance needed. This program proves even those who’ve slipped can turn things around. And if that starts with an oat latte, from Brazilian beans. Then pour me another cup.
