With boxing being a contact sport it is no wonder that rules have to be implemented to ensure that competitors safety and well being is paramount . Some of the basic and typical rules of the sport include weight classes. Boxers are classified by weight and only fight opponents in the same weight class. A referee must be present in the ring. Getting up If a boxer is knocked down, they must get back up on their own, without help from others. Boxers cannot wrestle or hug their opponent. The maximum number of rounds for men’s boxing matches is 12.The standard weight for gloves in heavyweight bouts is 10 ounces, but heavier gloves may be used in sparring to protect fighters

However the rules of the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul’s fight are somewhat different . The fight will take place at AT&T stadium in Dallas Texas. The weight class will be heavyweight, the division in which Tyson fought during his professional career and won 6 championship titles. The fact the fight will be fought at heavyweight class means that there are no maximum weight restrictions meaning Paul and Tyson don’t have to worry about making weight ahead of Thursday’s weigh in . Instead of 3 minute boxing rounds they will fight for two minutes each round which may be due to Tyson’s health and age .

As for gloves and equipment both Tyson and Paul will wear 14 ounce gloves which are heavier than the standard gloves mentioned previously in this article . The fight is being sanctioned by the Texas department of licensing and regulations. It is thought that the fight took place in Dallas as other states may have been too concerned with Tyson’s age(58) and health to issue a license as the fight had to be postponed once due to Tyson suffering from a stomach ulcer and was at the time advised by medical professionals to reduce fight preparations. The four major recognised bodies in boxing are the WBA , WBC, IBF and the WBO . The ring title is awarded by American boxing magazine The ring and has been done since 1922.
