On the other side of the street is Iskele stall, with Tamir. This is an offshoot of Iskele Restaurant, also in Whitecross Street, this breakaway takeaway having operated for ten years. Their speciality is Turkish food, particularly Lahmacun, which translates as “dough with meat.”

Tamir prepares for the lunchtime rush

It looks superb; round thin fresh Turkish bread covered in different toppings of minced lamb or vegetables for vegans and vegetarians.

They also offer various wraps and rice dishes for those who require gluten free options.

The unit is stacked away within the restaurant storage, and whilst their day starts at 7 a.m. to get set up, they anticipate getting away before 3 p.m. each day before starting their afternoon shift at the restaurant.

You can learn about other units in Whitecross Street Market here.
